I just read this posting on the THS. You summarized the information well. I want to comment on Garth Jerome, the Executive Director. He was hired in late 2008 as a resident medical expert (he has a BSc. in Microbiology, but I have seen no evidence of this). Like the Chief vet Stephen Sheridan who was charged with animal cruelty and other offences, and had those charges dropped (but, btw, still faces disciplinary action by the College of Vets and charges are still pending by the Ministry of Natural Resources) his job was to essentially provide the veneer of legitimacy to the whole operation at the time. It would be clear to anyone keeping animals, and surely to the professional he professes to be, that lack or abscence of meds, atrocious sanitation and the occasional superficial clean-up, severe and chronic understaffing, lack of sanitary protocols (as in no hand-cleaning between sick and well animals and between wildlife and domestic animals), no quarintining animals, few vets – that all these things would lead to what happened at the THS. Animals dying from starvation from no one to feed them, nor any food to feed them, whole rooms of kittens and other cats and dogs dying from one disease outbreak after another. From the preliminary stats it appears as if thousands of animals died this way, and counless more suffered and were in distress. This would be obvious to anyone who understands the basics of hygiene, let alone someone purporting to be a microbiologist with animal care experience. What Jerome appears to be by every indication, including his suspiciously high salary and his never admitting to poor animal care in court affidavits, is simply an accomplice to Trow and company. That is, a well paid sycophant, whose job it was to defraud donors into thinking the THS had superlative animal care – to the extent that they hired a microbiologist, as can be gleaned from their publicity of the man in the society magazine.
